PMC Ammo: The Bronze Line and What We Stock
PMC stands for Precision Made Cartridges, an ammunition brand based in Houston, Texas. Its Bronze line is the full metal jacket ammunition PMC builds for target practice and high-volume shooting. We stock two PMC Bronze loads at our Phoenix warehouse: the 223A, a .223 Remington 55 grain FMJ boat tail, and the 50A, a .50 BMG 660 grain FMJ boat tail. PMC X-Tac 5.56 green tip (556K) is out of stock right now.
Who PMC is
PMC sells under the name Precision Made Cartridges from Houston. On its own site, PMC says its supplier makes every component of the cartridge in house and owns and operates its own brass mill. PMC organizes its catalog in lines. Bronze is the practice and target line. X-Tac is the line PMC aims at military, law enforcement and serious target shooters. There are other lines for hunting and self-defense.
What the Bronze line is for
PMC positions Bronze for recreational shooters, riflemen, and anyone doing high-volume practice, from plinking to competition. In practice that means full metal jacket bullets packed in quantities that make a range day affordable. Bronze covers more than a dozen calibers across rifle and handgun, with boxes, battle packs and ammo cans. PMC's catalog lists the steel-penetrator LAP bullet under X-Tac, while the Bronze 223 Remington is a 55 grain FMJ boat tail. That makes Bronze 223A the usual PMC choice where a range bans M855-type rounds. A magnet on the bullet tip is still the quick check.
PMC Bronze 223A: 55 grain FMJ-BT
The PMC Bronze 223A is a .223 Remington load with a 55 grain full metal jacket boat tail bullet. PMC's product page lists a 2,900 feet per second muzzle velocity and 1,027 foot-pounds of muzzle energy, with a ballistic coefficient of 0.243. We sell it in 20-round boxes and in 200-, 500- and 1,000-round packs. The 1,000-round case ships at 27.8 pounds.
How to use it: 223A fits rifles marked .223 Remington, .223 Wylde or 5.56 NATO. Because it is a 55 grain bullet, it works in nearly any AR-15 twist, including older 1:12 barrels. It is also the load to pick when a range or training class bans M855. See ammo for AR-15 range practice and the .223 Remington category.
PMC Bronze 50A: 660 grain 50 BMG
The PMC Bronze 50A is a .50 BMG load with a 660 grain full metal jacket boat tail bullet. PMC lists 2,950 feet per second at the muzzle from a 36-inch barrel, 13,688 foot-pounds of muzzle energy and a 0.701 ballistic coefficient. We sell it in 10-round boxes (2.8 pounds) and 200-round cases (56.0 pounds). It is a practice and long-range target load for .50 BMG rifles. Our 50 BMG answer covers buying and shipping that heavy a case, and the 50 BMG category lists what is on the shelf.
PMC X-Tac 556K: out of stock
PMC X-Tac 5.56 (556K) is a 62 grain LAP load. PMC's product page lists it at 2,920 feet per second. We carry it when we can get it, but it is out of stock right now. For 62 grain 5.56 today, we have MKE SS109, Federal American Eagle XM855 and BVAC remanufactured Lake City M855 in 5.56x45mm NATO. See our 5.56 NATO guide.
How to choose a PMC load
- Match the cartridge to the marking on your barrel first.
- For AR-15 practice where steel core is banned, the 223A is the PMC fit.
- For .50 BMG, the 50A is a full metal jacket practice and target load, not a hunting load.
- Buy by the case when you shoot often. One lot keeps your zero steady from one range day to the next.
Buying, shipping and pickup
You must be 21 or older to order. Orders ship UPS Ground from Phoenix within 2 business days, and shipping is charged by weight, never free. Check where we ship before you order. PMC ammo questions
What does PMC stand for?
Precision Made Cartridges. It is the name PMC uses on its site, with headquarters listed in Houston, Texas.
What is the difference between PMC Bronze and PMC X-Tac?
Bronze is PMC's practice and target line, with full metal jacket bullets. X-Tac is the line PMC aims at military, law enforcement and target users, and its 5.56K uses a 62 grain LAP bullet. We stock Bronze 223A and 50A; X-Tac 556K is out of stock.
Can I shoot PMC 223A in a 5.56 rifle?
Yes. .223 Remington ammunition is safe in a 5.56 NATO chamber and in a .223 Wylde chamber. The reverse is the concern: 5.56 should not go in a chamber marked only .223 Remington. See 5.56 vs .223.
When will PMC X-Tac 556K be back in stock?
We do not have a date. The product page shows live stock, and you can call 480-623-4515 to ask. In the meantime we stock three other 62 grain 5.56 loads.
