Steel Case vs Brass Case Ammo
What is the difference between steel case and brass case ammo?
Brass cases are the traditional choice: they seal well in the chamber, resist corrosion, and can be collected and reloaded. Steel cases are usually coated with lacquer or polymer, are generally not reloadable, and are common in imported surplus-style ammunition. Some ranges ban steel-case rounds because a steel core can spark against backstops, so ask before you go. Check your firearm manual too, since some guns are more particular about one or the other. If you reload, brass is the only practical route. If you only shoot for fun at a range that allows it, either type works, so choose by what your gun and your range accept.
Compare the same caliber both ways: steel case 7.62x39 and brass case 7.62x39.
